A+U LAB is an interdisciplinary design and research studio. We are a team of architects, designers, and researchers collaborating across various works in architecture, urban design, interiors, installations, and research projects.

LAWRENCE KIM

Lawrence Kim is an architect, a professor at Pusan National University, and the director of A+U LAB.

Over a career spanning three decades, Lawrence has completed a diverse range of projects across the United States, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. His distinguished clientele includes conglomerates, governments, development companies, universities, hospitals, and cultural institutions. Recognized for his innovative and thoughtful approach, his work has been featured in leading publications and recognized with over 60 international honors, notably from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA).

Beyond his academic role at Pusan National University, Lawrence frequently lectures at international institutions and serves as a juror for prestigious awards programs. He also serves on multiple advisory commissions for Korean national and city government agencies.

Prior to establishing A+U LAB, Lawrence practiced architecture based in New York City for 25 years, working at some of the leading global design firms, including AECOM Ellerbe Becket, HLW International, and Perkins Will where he led the design of architecture and urban projects domestically and internationally. He joined the faculty at Pusan National University in 2015.

로렌스김은 건축가이자 부산대학교 교수이며 에이유랩(A+U LAB)의 디렉터이다. 미국 컬럼비아대학교 건축대학원을 졸업한 후 뉴욕에서 25여 년간 건축가로 활동하며 미국, 아시아, 유럽 및 중동 여러 지역의 다양한 건축 및 도시 프로젝트를 계획하고 설계하였다. 글로벌 건축디자인 기업인 AECOM Ellerbe Becket, HLW International, Perkins Will을 거쳐 Studio Lawrence Kim을 설립하여 활동하였고 New Jersey Institute of Technology에서 겸임 교수로 재직하였다. 2015년부터는 부산대학교에 재직하며 A+U LAB을 통해 활동하고 있다. 그의 작업은 미국건축가협회상(AIA Design Awards), 미국건축사협회상(SARA Design Awards), ID 올해 최고의 디자인상(Interior Design Best of Year Awards) 등 건축가로 활동한 지난 30여 년간 60여 개의 국제 건축상을 수상하였으며 Architectural Record, Architect 및 Interior Design을 비롯한 주요 저널에 소개된 바 있다. 로렌스김은 뉴욕주 등록 미국 건축사이자 미국 친환경설계기술사(LEED AP)이며 국토교통부 등록 외국건축사이다.
